How to Find Right Center for Spiritual Formation?
There isn't just one perfect way to discover a Spiritual Centre, but there are certain tried-and-true steps you may take right now. Joining a good spiritual centre is the perfect step towards peace making.
Perfect steps to find a
spiritual centre:
● Seek a recommendation from
someone you know and trust: Do you have any friends who are happy with their
spiritual centre? Inquire about their knowledge. Check with your diocese to see
where they would recommend starting.
● Use your imagination when
thinking: Inquire with the priest who has helped you through confession or
whose homilies have had a significant influence on you. Retired priests have a
wealth of expertise and may have spare time. You may be able to locate a
religious sister or brother from an active or contemplative order who is
willing to assist you. Be open to internet meetings and contact convents or
monasteries whose spiritual traditions you like. One can opt for the peace
sermons of Sheila Wise Rowe.
● Be receptive to the idea of
a Spiritual Mentor: Those who are walking ahead of you on the route with a
pastoral heart and a desire to walk with you on your spiritual journey, be open
to them. Maybe the sage in your Bible study or the elderly lady who seems to
live a balanced life of prayer and work in your mom's group. Maybe you have a
favourite writer whose works have shaped your life. Do you have a favourite
speaker, retreat leader, lecturer, or teacher whose lectures have motivated
you? Asking whether they can mentor you or can recommend someone who can be
interesting.
● Don't give up searching. Be
sceptical of suggestions that you should give up or that no one has time for
you. Spiritual directors are people whom God has called, and their mission is
as essential as yours. Be patient and fight the lie of your soul's opponent
that everything is a waste of time.
● Ask God: If it is God's
Will, pray to Him every day, asking Him to provide you with spiritual guidance.
Ask Him with perseverance and faith, knowing that He cares much more about your
spiritual development than you do and that He is the source of your need for
guidance and companionship on your journey to Him.
