The Journey of Spiritual Formation in the Community

We refer to God as someone who creates the entire universe and us. He is the creator and the destroyer. But little do we know he plays a much broader role than that. God is someone whom we are connected to, in good times or bad. He is a part of ourselves, and every day he is asking us to move towards the idea of equality, happiness, and spiritual formation.

It is believed that you are a Christlike character only if you follow the true paths of Jesus. Spiritual formation focuses on the journey towards your union with God. Many people may not believe this at first, but this does not make it less important. The people who believe in the term are committed to it because they believe the world, let alone the church, will be better served by men and women who have a pure heart and put others’ happiness before themselves. These are the people who believe in violence over non-violence and try to resolve every issue or situation with love and harmony.

Educating the minds about the importance of spiritual formation is not enough. Thus came the concept of a center for spiritual formation. Just like a child finds himself comfortable with kids their age and adapts the same habits, in the same way, adults, both men, and women, may feel they belong at centers for spiritual formation where they will meet with their true inner self. This is a way to show them a reflection of what they truly are and what they want the world to see.

Spiritual formation is a journey that must be passed in baby steps. It requires to adapt things like forgiving others, following the non violent path, treating everyone with equality, helping others without any deeds, always wanting the best for the people, treating the people of your community as well as outside the community with respect, and most importantly, thinking about others’ before thinking for yourself.

Following the path of the spiritual formation may not be very easy. But public figures like Justin Giboney make us aware of its benefits with his peace talk series. One can never be burdened with good thoughts, but with bad thoughts, you can easily drown.
